Classes
We
offer a variety of classes at beginner, advanced beginner, and advanced
levels. Check out the June Classes Calendar for times. It's not necessary to reserve a spot in the regular classes, but it's important to let us know if you're coming to a special class, so we know we have people coming.
Beginning
Knitting Classes with Julia
Garden
District Needlework offers a free, one-session, two-hour class
for new knitters one Saturday a month. We cover how to cast
on, knit, and bind off so that you can make a scarf, or afghan,
shawl, or other beginner-level knitting projects. All students
will need to purchase their starting kit here at Garden District
Needlework, which includes a how-to booklet, knitting needles,
and a skein of yarn for their first project. This class is always on Saturdays. $20.00.
Advanced
Beginning Knitting Classes with Julia
Following
up on the skills from the beginner course, this is a $20, one-session
class that covers purling, fixing errors, basic pattern reading,
and knitting on circular needles. This class is always on Saturdays.
Socks on 2 Circular Needles with Julia
This is a two-session class ($35 total, plus materials) for knitting up socks on 2 circular needles, rather than 4-5 double-pointed needles. This class is always on Saturdays.
Beginning
Knitting in Three Sessions with Sally
This
is an ongoing class. Learn to cast on, knit, purl, and bind
off. Projects include scarf and hat, additional projects can
be made, time permitting. This class is taught in 3 sessions
of 2 Hours at $25.00 a session, pay-as-you-go. Project materials
(needles, yarn, instruction book) are $20. Wednesday and Friday
10 am-12 PM.
Intermediate
Knitting in Three Sessions with Sally
This
is an ongoing class. Builds on techniques learned in Knitting
Basics. Covers slip stitching, knitting in the round, increasing.
Cable stitches will be explored if time permits. This class
is taught in 3 sessions of 2 Hours at $25.00 a session, pay-as-you-go.
Project materials are additional. Wednesday 1 PM-3 PM.
Advanced
Knitting in Four Sessions with Sally
Design your own sweater and tailor it to fit. Four sessions
of two hours each. $25.00 a session, pay-as-you-go. Project
materials are additional.
Needlepoint
One with Diana Johnson
Needlepoint
One projects feature basic and decorative stitches. Students
learn how to count in pattern, use a variety of stitches and
threads, and compensate partial stitches. Four sessions, two
hours each. $135.00 includes canvas, fibers, needles and book.
Crochet
One with Sally Christovich
Crochet
One covers chain, skip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet,
double crochet, and triple crochet, increasing and decreasing.
These stitches are the foundation for items from afghans to
bikinis. Three sessions at two hours each. $75.00 includes practice
yarn and hook. Project materials are additional.
Felting
Fun
The
fun and versatility of felting! From purses to slippers, felting
is fun and creative. This class is taught in two sessions, two
hours each. $50.00. Project materials are additional and may
greatly vary in price depending on your choices.

Basics with Diana Johnson
Learn to knit colorful and comfortable socks on two circular
needles instead of double-pointeds. Even learn how to knit two
socks at once on the same needles and how to adapt patterns
for design and size. Fabulous Koigu yarns. Four sessions of
two hours each. $50.00. Project materials are additional.
Lace 101
with Kate
Read
patterns and learn techniques to make a colorful and delicate
lace shawl. Must have beginner skills. Two sessions at two hours
each. $35.00 Project materials are additional.
Cable Knitting
101 with Julia
Add depth and texture with visual "twists" made with
a third needle. Multiple techniques and patterns. Must have
beginner skills. One session, two hours. $35.00 Project materials
are additional.
Knitting
Math 1, 2, 3
Do gauges
and stitches and increasing evenly drive you a little out of your
fun zone? We'll show you the easy way to do your knitting math
as you work through your favorite patterns and take on new challenges
you may have thought you needed a calculator to understand.
Workshop:
Correcting Mistakes
We all make
mistakes. But experts know how to undo them! Learn how to correct
for common mistakes, such as picking up dropped stitches, turning
knits into purls, and "frogging" your work several rows
at a time so you can fix a large error without starting over.
