Classes We offer a variety of classes at beginner, advanced beginner, and advanced levels. Check out the August Class Calendar and September Class Calendar for times. Learn to knit for free the first Saturday of each month with Julia. This two-hour class covers how to cast on, knit, and bind off so that you can make a scarf, or afghan, shawl, or other beginner-level knitting projects. You do need to purchase your starter kit, which includes a how-to booklet, knitting needles, and a skein of yarn for their first project. Price is $25.Advanced Beginning Knitting with Julia (picture) Following up on the skills from the beginner course, this is a $25 class that covers purling, fixing errors, basic pattern reading, and knitting on circular needles to make a hat. One session, $25. For students who know how to knit and purl. Free pattern! This is for knitting up socks on 2 circular needles, rather than 4-5 double-pointed needles. So much easier! Done cuff-up, toes-down, one at a time. Beginning Lace with Julia (picture) One session, $25. For students who know how to knit and purl. Class covers how to read your stitches and make lace with YO, SSK, K2tog, PSSO, and other stitches. Knitting without mistakes using stitch markers, lifelines, counting, and other techniques. Class uses worsted-weight yarn with size 8 US needles. One session, $25. For students who know how to knit and purl. Class covers how to make lace with YO, SSK, K2tog, PSSO, and other stitches. The main technique here is understanding how to take a repeated design and expand out from a point to make any shawl. You can use any weight yarn you like. Chic Cabled Bag with Julia (picture) One session, $25. For students who know how to knit and purl. Class covers how to cable and bobble, increase and decrease, join pieces with the mattress stitch, change needle sizes, and make an i-cord. You can use any weight yarn you like. Entrelac Mardi Gras Hat with Julia (picture) One session, $25. For students who know how to knit and purl. Class covers how to knit in the round and perform the entrelac pattern, which makes your knitting look like weaving. Very cool! Also covers making bobbles and picking up stitches. One session, $25. For students who know how to knit and purl. Class covers how to know you've made a mistake, what kind of mistake you've made, and how to fix it without ripping. Includes instructions on un-knitting and un-purling, picking up dropped stitches, checking math, using a crochet hook to fix those big mistakes, and avoiding mistakes in finishing. Students are welcome to bring their own knitting headaches. Sample projects will be provided. Knitting Embellishments with Julia One session, $25. For students who know how to knit and purl. Class covers how to make fringe, tassels, pom-poms and crocheted edges. Learn to Swiss darn (double-stitch), add in beads as you knit, and decorate with buttons and other do-dads. So fun! The class will be provided with sample projects, but you'll need to have at least one skein of yarn for your own creation. Reversible Cabling with Julia (picture) One session, $25. For students who know how to knit and purl. Class covers how to cable, how to create cabling patterns, and how to make any cable pattern a reversible cable pattern. Also includes making i-cords and "false" cables. One session, $25. For students who know how to knit and purl. Class will pick a suitable sweater pattern, discuss all techniques to be used, practice finishing, -- especially the sewing! -- and blocking, and select the right materials for students to do their first sweater. Needlepoint One with Diana Johnson Needlepoint One projects feature basic and decorative stitches. Students learn how to count in pattern, use a variety of stitches and threads, and compensate partial stitches. Four sessions, two hours each. $135.00 includes canvas, fibers, needles and book. Crochet with Sally Christovich - Available on Wednesdays by Appointment Only Crochet One covers chain, skip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, and triple crochet, increasing and decreasing. These stitches are the foundation for items from afghans to bikinis. Three sessions at two hours each. $75.00 includes practice yarn and hook. Project materials are additional. Don't
